Xcel Fashion, Hair and Beauty Student of the Year award

Sindi originally studied business before realising her passion was elsewhere. After experience at a beauty salon she is determined to take her qualification to level 3, and has ambitions to both run her own salon as well as change the public perception of Beauticians and Beauty students.

Sindi demonstrates how much of an asset apprenticeship and further education students can be. Besides working in a salon, she has become popular with the students, staff and family members who she practices on! Her work is declared to be of the highest calibre and she finds time to do an immense amount of voluntary activities with the college and local community.

Sindi said that winning her award still felt like a dream:

Being completely honest, I’m more surprised than overjoyed. Getting an award for doing something not solely for reasons relating to academics or occupation, but mainly because I enjoy it overall, reassures me that I’m doing something right.”

When asked what advice she would give to other students who wished to follow her example, Sindi said: “Just be yourself. There’s always room to improve and learn.”

I haven’t managed to queue-barge onto Sindi’s waiting list. She is too popular”
