Xcel Performing Arts Student of the Year award

Nessah has had a passion for creative writing and drama since her school years. Her degree work has seen that early passion develop into a significant talent that has included helping run and organise the Accidental Festival at the Roundhouse; working as an Assistant Director to Nina Raine at the Royal Court Theatre; and setting up ‘speed-dating’ to put new writers and directors together.

Nessah is forecast to get a first class honours degree and has been described as “one of the two best students I have ever worked with”. This is no mean accomplishment bearing in mind Central’s alumni include stars of stage and screen.

Nessah said that she felt privileged to have won her award and wanted to dedicate it to the people who have helped her achieve success:

I don't feel I can take full credit for my award as there are many people that have both inspired and challenged me, and consequently helped to set me on this path. Most notably my family, whose support and encouragement is unfathomable.”

“I receive this award in the final stages of my university education, so it is a very nice way to end that chapter. For me it is also a token of encouragement, to keep striving and keep aiming for my goals,” she added.

There is always a reluctance for the judges to even consider nominations from a sponsoring organisation, but Nessah’s achievement just demanded attention .”
